Child-safe by design · Engineering
The story behind our
child-safe solutions.
Child safety isn't just a priority at Coulisse — it's the foundation of everything they do. The commitment to safety inspires them to engineer window covering solutions that eliminate risks and protect families. Safety is never an afterthought; it's a mission embedded in every stage of their design philosophy.
Our Child-Safe by Design philosophy
The 'Child-Safe by Design' philosophy prioritizes integrating child safety into Coulisse systems from the start. They don't rely on add-on safety devices as fixes; instead, they build solutions that naturally prevent hazards.
Global standards are critical to creating safe spaces in homes and businesses. By eliminating dangers like free-hanging cords, Coulisse aligns with safety requirements for custom window coverings used in both commercial and residential spaces. But they don't just meet these standards — they exceed them.
Coulisse's in-house engineering team is at the forefront of this effort. With innovative designs and rigorous testing, they ensure every product meets the highest safety and quality standards. To reinforce this commitment, they partner with third-party laboratories for independent testing and certification, delivering products that set a new benchmark for safety.

A rigorous development process
Coulisse follows a rigorous four-phase process to ensure products meet safety standards.
- 01R&D — market research, trend analysis, and defining product requirements.
- 02Design — creating child-safe, modular solutions across product lines (roller, honeycomb, roman). Safety features like child-proof pull wands and safety tensioners are prototyped, tested in-house, and 3D-printed.
- 03Production preparation — molds and tools are built for mass production, then products are rigorously tested using endurance test machines, climate rooms, motor test machines, and tensile test machines until results meet stringent standards.
- 04Market launch — documentation, certifications, marketing materials highlighting safety features, and comprehensive training for distributors and retailers on safe installation and use. A dedicated customer-service team supports any post-launch issues.

Global compliance
Ensuring global safety compliance
Product samples are sent to external accredited testing facilities for certification. Coulisse collaborates with Bureau Veritas and TÜV so products meet regulations across different regions. Products comply with ANSI/WCMA A100.1, EN 13120, EN 16433, and EN 16434.
Coulisse engineers also participate in standardization bodies — the Royal Netherlands Standardization Institute (NEN) and the European Committee for Standardization (CEN / Comité Européen de Normalisation) — contributing to new safety standards and keeping products compliant with the most up-to-date requirements.
